White paper about Mobile Operating Systems

Posted by javi vazquez on November 07, 2006

Due to the business master project I am working in these weeks, I have found a very interesting and quite recent white paper about the landscape of hand held operating systems [arcchart.com].

This 27 pages report was developed by ARC Chart research and consulting and sponsored by Trolltech.

It’s interesting to point out that, according to it, “2006 marks a turning point in the history of Linux as a mobile phone platform“.
GTK+, Nokia S60, Symbian OS and Trolltech Qtopia are only some of the 15 products analyzed.

Finally, about the 3 main players nowadays: Linux and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile will have a rosy future on mobile devies, while Symbian’s position will be challenged.

I would recommend anyone interested in OSs and hand held devices to read the whole document.
