Master discounts to the Final Year Project contest participants

For those who are thinking in applying for a Master course about software I would like to encourage to check out the Master on Free Software web. This year Igalia, the Master organizer, wanted to promote the FYP prize initiative by offering an additional 10% discount  for those who have presented their candidacy to the FYP contest.

With this step the Master project tries to support the people already committed with the Free Software movement and who want to deepen their knowledge about this way of creating technology.

At Igalia we are very focused on promoting Free Software and we think the students are one of the most relevant targets, since they are still open-minded and have the energy and passion enough to push for this collaborative business model against the typical one based on licenses and patents, usually managed by a group of big companies.

IV Edition “Best FS End of Study Project Prize”

It’s my pleasure to announce a new edition of the Free Software End of Study Prize contest for this year.  All the info is available in the Prize project blog, im sorry its only in Galician, for the time being 🙂

For the non-galician speakers, i would like to briefly introduce this initiative. The End of Study Project Prize contest was born to be way of promoting Free Software among the students. We are nowadays focused on Galicia local area, where most of Igalian’s belong to, but we are open to explore other international approaches to achieve more global goals.

In this new edition we count with some new collaborators, being remarkable the support of CENATIC,  reference organization in Spain regarding the Free Software support and promotion.

We again count this year with the support of the main educational organizations in Galica, focused on the Computer Science learning, being an active part of this initiative.  We also continue hosting the Prize project in the Mancomún infrastructure (mailing lists, source code repositories, …).

The End of Study Project Prize contest has reached a remarkable success during the last three years, so its time to focus more on the real business around Free Software and try to use this contest as a way of attracting students to this new and fair way of creating technology.

I’m very proud of being part of a company like Igalia, being always worried about the Free Software communities “health” in its local area, which we are fully committed with.

So, if someone thinks this initiative could be exported to other countries, or there is already similar projects we could collaborate with, feel free to comment and perhaps starting a cooperation with us.
