The problem of the unidirectional communication between backend and frontend is more and more annoying.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advogato.org\/person\/garnacho\/\">Garnacho<\/a> thinks that  it&#8217;s the moment to modernize GST. I totally agree.<\/p>\n<p>There are two main goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use <a href=\"http:\/\/freedesktop.org\/wiki\/Software_2fdbus\">D-BUS<\/a> for the communication backend &#8211; frontend<\/li>\n<li>Make a GObject wrapper for a libgst library<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our first task will be to do the perl bindings for  <a href=\"http:\/\/freedesktop.org\/wiki\/Software_2fdbus\">D-BUS<\/a>, because it seems  that there are no bindings yet. Then we&#8217;ll be able to start working on the backends for providing  a <a href=\"http:\/\/freedesktop.org\/wiki\/Software_2fdbus\">D-BUS<\/a> service.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be able to do many things that we can&#8217;t with the current architecture,  like send notifications from the backend to the frontend (for example when a removable network card is  detached).<\/p>\n<p>More information:  <a href=\"http:\/\/live.gnome.org\/SystemToolsBackends\">http:\/\/live.gnome.org\/SystemToolsBackends<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m desiring to begin! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was talking with garnacho about the future of GST.
